Vitamin ‘D’ Deficiency-A Risk Factor

According to a recent study, if you are type 1 diabetic , vitamin D
deficiency is a risk factor for a coronary artery disease.

375 patients participated in a coronary artery calcification study.
Measurements were taken at three and six year visits.

1. 10 % were Vitamin D deficient ( that is 20mg/ml or less)
2. 20-30% were vitamin D insufficient ( that is 21-30mg/ml or less)

The normal serum level is 30mg/ml

Although vitamin 'D ' deficiency is not inceased in type 1 diabetes.
It may stimulate coronary artery calcification in these patients
